Hepatitis SA (formerly Hepatitis C Council of South Australia) is a community-based organisation providing information and services to South Australians affected by hepatitis C and to some extent, hepatitis B. We work to bring about a society that cares for the health and well-being of people affected by hepatitis and a society which understands the link between health and social justice.
We provide information and support to people affected by hepatitis and workers in the sector. We lead the community response to hepatitis by participating in a range of government and community services reference groups. Read our mission statement.
Hepatitis SA was started by a group of volunteers over ten years ago and volunteers continue to play an important role in the running of our services. Read more about volunteering with us.
Amongst other things, our on-going activities include:
- Education and training for workers in the health and community services sector
- Telephone information and support to people affected by hepatitis C and workers in the sector.
- Placement of hepatitis C peer educators with other service organisations.
- A positive speaker program whereby people share their hepatitis C experiences.
- Distribution of printed and online information.
- Peer based support group for people affected by hepatitis C.
- Awareness raising through information stalls at community events.
- Maintaining a library of hepatitis C related resources.
- Developing new hepatitis C resources.
We also engage in one-off projects that provide opportunities for targeted communities to learn about hepatitis C as well as raise the profile of hepatitis in the wider community.
We are funded through SA Health and some small one-off grants from other sources.
