LONDON opera singer Lili La Scala will make her grand entrance in Friday's Adelaide Fringe opening parade atop a cherry picker, leading a river of blood-red fabric.

This is La Scala's first appearance at the Fringe, where she is starring in The Boy with Tape on his Face - and performing a balloon-popping striptease in The Seriously Big Show.

"I'm actually a trained opera singer - that's my first love. The burlesque thing came later," La Scala said.

She studied as a soprano at London's Guild Hall School of Music. "After that, I started doing street performing and that's taken me all over the world," she said.

The cherry picker, which will have its own sound system and a giant mirror ball, is the centrepiece of the Hepatitis C Council of South Australia's "Red and Flowing" float. It will be surrounded by staff, family and friends in red costumes.

"It's a team-building exercise for our organisation," council executive officer Kerry Paterson said.

"It's like blood flowing. It's trying to put across a message about blood awareness: We wanted to celebrate all the good things about blood."

The Hepatitis Council is among 60 community, business and artist groups taking part in Friday's parade.
