Is an initiative of:

The project aims to increase awareness of hepatitis C in culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Adelaide by bringing together multiple CALD communities, including Middle Eastern, African, South American, Vietnamese & other Asian communities. A series of drumming workshops within and between the communities will culminate in National Hepatitis C Awareness Week performance opportunities in May 2008.
Community members are supported to participate in the project according to their level of drumming expertise, commitment level and interest in performing. The workshops will be relaxed and informal throughout the first part of the project (until February 2008), leading to more structured and intensive workshops for those that wish to perform (March – May 2008). The workshops will be led by the acclaimed Adelaide composer and Musical Director Robert Petchell.
Participants will be encouraged to learn together and share their understandings around hepatitis C in a relaxed, stimulating and non-threatening environment in which to have fun whilst introducing a basic health promotion messages. The project also provides an opportunity for community members to interact with hep C service providers outside of a ‘service’ or healthcare environment, and for hepatitis C community educators to gain a better understanding of the learning needs of these communities.
To follow the project, a DVD resource, will be produced that generates further opportunities for the hepatitis C workforce in learning about diverse CALD hepatitis C issues and learning approaches.
