Approved on on 9 January 2012, Victrelis is approved for the treatment of chronic hep C genotype 1 infection. The drug is to be used in a combination regimen with peginterferon alpha and ribavirin, in adult patients (18 years and older) with compensated liver disease who are previously untreated or who have failed previous therapy.

The Pharmaceuitical Benefits Advisory Committee rejected a seperate submission on listing Victrelis as a S100 Medicare subsidised drug. The treatment was knocked back on the basis of uncertain cost effectiveness.
