- Diagnosis - Tests recommended
- 3 - 6 months apart - hepatitis C Ab positive (twice), hepatitis B sAb, hepatitis B sAg, hepatitis A Ab
- 3 - 12 monthly - LFTs initially, then 3 - 12 monthly depending on circumstances
- Yearly - CPB - platelets/immune function
- Yearly - Iron studies - screen for excess accumulation, if very high - gene-test haemachromatosis
- Once - Alpha 1, Anti-Trypsin - if deficient see specialist
- Yearly - Auto-Immune Screen - anti KLM, ANA, anti-thyroid, if high titres see specialist
- Once - Ceruloplasmin (Wilson's Disease) - copper level if high see specialist
- Yearly - Urine - dipstick urinalysis - for blood, protein, urobilinogen
- If you have normal liver function for two consecutive tests, six months apart, you are eligible to have a Medicare covered PCR test to see whether you still have the virus in your system (you may have cleared the virus).
- Late Disease - more than 10 years after infection and/or cirrhosis on biopsy
- 6 monthly - Alpha-Feto-Protein (tumour marker blood test), Liver Ultrasound
